Barrel-Aged Hair of the Dog Release May 10

Hair of the Dog head brewer and owner Alan Sprints dropped a bite of barrel-aged news this week, announcing a triple release set for Friday, May 10 at the brewery. In celebration of Portland’s own Fred Eckhardt (nationally known homebrewer, beer writer and more), the brewery will be releasing the 2013 batches of Fred from the Wood and Bourbon Fred from the Wood.

This weekend also sees the return of Lila, a draft-only lager brewed on Sprints’ mother’s birthday (February 3) and released every Mother’s Day weekend.

The details:

  • Fred from the Wood will be $12 per bottle or $240 for a case
  • Bourbon Fred from the Wood is $7 per bottle or $140 for a case
  • No word on limits or official start time, but the brewery typically opens at 11:30am

Important note on carbonation – Some people will recall the last batch of Bourbon Fred was significantly undercarbed, bordering on completely flat. Unfortunately it looks like this issue has returned again in 2013 per Sprints’ post on Facebook yesterday: “Carbonation is great in FFtW…and lacking in BFFtW.”

Hair of the Dog Brewery and Tasting Room is located at 61 SE Yamhill in Portland.
