Allagash Merveilleux Debuts Soon, Limited National Distro
Marvelous! Another barrel-aged wild ale is ready to roll out of Portland’s Allagash Brewing Company next week according to an Instagram post this morning. Merveilleux, a blended wild ale aged in bourbon and wine barrels, will be available at the brewery’s retail store next week, followed by limited national distribution “soon.”
Merveilleux, French for marvelous, is the second release of this limited series. This beer is a blend of five different beers fermented in a mix of both bourbon and wine barrels. Brettanomyces, pediocaucus and lactobacillus were all utilized to create a myriad of flavors in this unique copper colored beer. The aroma is defined by the presence of the Brett resulting in both a crusty bread and fruit character. The tartness works well with the light oak and distinct citrus flavors, which are followed by a gentle maltiness and dry finish. 9.6% ABV.
Allagash Brewing Company is located at 50 Industrial Way in Portland.
