Deschutes Beer Update: The Abyss, Chasin’ Freshies, Hop Trip
Wonderfully beery news coming out of Oregon this week, as Deschutes Brewery announced a pair of fresh hop ales and the return of one of the industry’s most popular imperial stouts, The Abyss. Let’s get right down to it.
Hop Trip – Coming in at 5.4% ABV, this fresh hop pale ale utilizes Crystal hops from Salem, OR. The hops are harvested and tossed into the brew kettles in just 4 hours to give the beer a bold, citrusy flavor. Available in 6-packs and draft in October.
Chasin’ Freshies – This IPA will be making its sophomore appearance in 22oz bottles featuring freshly picked Amarillo. The hop varietal will change each year, so catch this one while you can. 7.2% ABV, draft and bottles available in October.
The Abyss – Oregon’s mighty imperial stout returns for the 8th time, featuring bold, rich flavors thanks to dark malts, brewers’ licorice, black strap molasses, vanilla beans and cherry bark. The Abyss was aged in a combination of bourbon, Oregon oak and pinot barrels, weighing in at a mighty 11% ABV. Limited draft and 22oz bottles will be available “in late November.”
