Hair of the Dog Dave Bottles for Sale

No, this is not a joke. Do not adjust your monitors. Hair of the Dog owner and brewmaster Alan Sprints just tweeted the above message announcing the sale of Dave bottles at the brewery in Portland. The price is reported to be $2000 per bottle.

Hair of the Dog Dave is one of the rarest, most sought after beers among the American craft beer landscape. A barleywine coming in at 29% ABV, Dave was produced in 1994 by freezing 300 gallons of the brewery’s flagship Adam beer numerous times, reducing the batch size to less than 100 gallons. It first debuted in 1998 at the Toronado Barleywine Festival in San Francisco where it won gold.

While the price sounds incredibly high, a pair of Daves were sold at auction in November 2012 for $4525.36, while another bottle went for $1571 in May 2010.

UPDATE 9/26: Similar to previous Hair of the Dog Dave bottle sales, the proceeds from this sale are going to Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Hair of the Dog Brewing Company is located at 61 SE Yamhill Street in Portland.
